Last Saturday(1 week ago) I donated $35 to a bank of chile account designated for out of country donations. It gave me a confirmation number and everything. It has not showed up on my online statement. Two days ago I deposited $100 to pay my phone bill and it did appear on my statement. Later that same day I payed my AT&T cell bill for $95 and that has nor appeared either although I got a “thanks for you payment” email. Also that same day, I ordered an e-book for around $7 from the amazon kindle store and that showed up immediately. This is my first bank account and I’m not sure what to do. Is this normal or should I call customer service for bank of America? I’m making sure to keep enough money in my account to pay for those that haven’t showed up yet but I’m still concerned that there may be a problem. Just keep track of your purchases and make sure you have enough money in the account to cover the transactions. I have yet to figure out why some transactions show up immediately and some can take weeks. I know that when you use debit to pay, the transaction should hit your account within a day and that any transaction done through “credit” can take days to be posted to your account. Writing checks… is even a bigger gamble because you don’t know when the recipient takes it to the bank and then it can still take another 10 days to process after that. Just keep a check register and immediately deduct any purchase you make or checks you write from your balance and consider it gone out of your account. That is the safest way. At any time… keep a hidden amount in your checking account. Call it a cushion and write it out of your check register. A meticulously kept check register… beats online banking any day. Should I contact bank of a customer service if a transaction hasn’t showed up after a week?
Thanks. They were made with a debit account and both payments were made online. I would expect the donation to take a little longer but I was still slightly worried.
